Bar Admission in Louisiana

Summary of Key Requirements:

To be admitted to the bar, you must be:

  • at least 18 yrs old
  • a US citizen*
  • of sound mind, good moral character and fitness to practice law
  • a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association**

* or a lawfully admitted permanent resident or authorized to work lawfully in the US
** or if from outside of United States had an equivalency determination approved by the Committee on Bar Admissions

To be admitted to the bar, you must do the following:

  • submit a dean or chancellor certificate of gradutaion and fitness
  • pass the written examination.
  • request the preparation of an NCBE character report
  • submit an admission application to the Committee on Bar Admissions
  • pay any applicable fees
